I. Introduction
Ningxia University, founded in 1958, is a university jointly run by the Ministry of Education and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It is one of the state "first-class discipline" construction universities and one of the state "project 211" key universities. Ningxia university is one of the first universities approved by the Ministry of Education to accept foreign students, one of the universities authorized to accept foreign students awarded the Chinese Government Scholarship, the only HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) site in Ningxia. Since Ningxia University started enrolling foreign students in 1992, more than 3,000 overseas students from more than 40 countries like Korea, the United States, Japan, Russia, Australia, Norway, Mexico, Sudan, Egypt, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan and so on have studied in Ningxia University.
The School of International Education (SIE) in Ningxia University is a dedicated school for international students’ enrollment, administration, management, as well as teaching and training in Chinese language. The SIE has both an undergraduate program and graduate program in Chinese Language and Literature. The SIE provides standardized and systematic management for international students as well as all-round and humanized services. Students are taught in small-sized classes with a strong emphasis on personalized teaching. Different exchange activities between Chinese students and foreign students, colorful extracurricular activities and Chinese cultural activities are organized for the international students.
II. Length of schooling and terms
The undergraduate program lasts for four years, the graduate program and the doctoral program last for three years. Language students can apply for a study period of at least six months. In addition, the SIE accepts various short-term Chinese Culture programs with no limitations on number of applicants, time, and learning content.
The academic year in Ningxia University is divided into a spring semester and an autumn semester. The autumn semester is the beginning of a new academic year. The autumn semester usually starts at the beginning of September and ends in January of the following year while the spring semester begins in late February and ends in early July. There is a winter and summer vacation every year.
III. Programs

IV. Chinese Proficiency Requirements for admission:
(1) Students applying for the Chinese language and literature undergraduate program can be admitted without Chinese language proficiency;
(2) HSK level 4 is required for Non-Chinese language and literature majored undergraduate applicants, HSK level 5 is required for graduate applicants; No HSK requirements for doctoral program applicants but the students must take one-year Chinese language course;
(3) Applicants as advanced scholars, and research visiting scholars do not have Chinese language requirements, but must be able to communicate normally with supervisors or co-professors in English;
(4) There is no Chinese proficiency requirement for language students and short-term study programs.
V. Medical insurance
Ningxia University requires international students to have insurance during their studies. The insurance should cover at least accidental injury and medical insurance. After registration, the school will assist self-financed students to purchase their insurance for their period of study in China. The school will purchase insurance for scholarship students after their registration.
VI. Accommodation information
Ningxia University has international student apartment on campus. The undergraduates and graduates live in international student apartment. Every room has a private bathroom with 24-hour hot water and shares a public kitchen, one on each floor, and a public laundry room on first floor. All the rooms are fully equipped, comfortable and safe. The PhDs live in the Youth apartment. The apartment is closed from 23:00-06:00+1; an apartment administrator is on duty 24-hours. Following is the accommodation fee standard:
International student apartment: 3000 RMB/person/semester
Youth apartment: 3600 RMB/person/semester (double room)
7200 RMB/person/semester (single room)
VII. Application requirements & materials
1. Requirements:
(1) The undergraduate program applicants must be between 18 to 25 years old (DOB:1996/08/30-2003/08/30); the graduate applicants must be under 35 years old (DOB: after 1986/08/30); the PhD applicants must be under 40 years old (DOB: after 1981/08/30);
(2) Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens who have a foreign passport and be friendly to China. A Chinese immigrant applying to study in Ningxia University must hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for at least 4 years, and in addition, the applicant must have a record of living abroad for more than two years of the last four (up to April 30 of the application year). At least 9 months in one year can be counted as one year subject to entry and exit seals;
(3) Undergraduate program applicants should be fresh high school graduates or have a high school diploma with good grades in secondary school;
(4) No criminal record, no history of drug use;
(5) In good health, no serious infectious diseases.
2.Documents for degree program application
(1) The Admission Application Form for Foreign Students, NXU;
(2) A copy of the highest academic certificate;
(3) Original of the highest academic qualification notarized by the Chinese Embassy. The applicant who is still at school has to submit a certificate of attendance or pre-graduation certificate issued by the school currently being attended. Moreover, after admission, the applicant must submit the original academic qualification and a copy notarized by the Chinese Embassy;
(4) Copies of the academic transcript both the original and a copy notarized by the Chinese Embassy; (5) Study plan (for undergraduate) or research plan (for postgraduate) in China;
(6) Letter of recommendation. Applicants for the undergraduate program must submit two letters of recommendation in either Chinese or English from high school teachers; applicants for the master's or doctoral degree must submit two letters of recommendation in either Chinese or English by a professor or associate professor;
(7) The applicant’s passport (Passport must be valid beyond the intended period of study in China.);
(8) Electronic photo;
(9) Articles published in public journals, etc (Required for applicants for the doctoral program);
(10) Certificates of various awards during study or work;
(11) HSK transcript (non-Chinese major applicants must provide HSK Level 4 or Level 5 certificate);
(12) AIDS laboratory report;
(13) No criminal record certificate notarized by the Chinese Embassy;
(14) A photocopy of the Foreign Physical Examination Record (This form is uniformly printed by the Chinese health and quarantine department and can be downloaded at http://sie.nxu.edu.cn.) and a blood test report. Applicants should strictly follow the guidelines of the Foreign Physical Examination Record. The Foreign Physical Examination Record is invalid if it is incomplete, without the signature of the doctor and the official stamp of the hospital, or without the photo of the applicant and the cross-page seal on the photo. The applicant is requested to do the medical examination within the 3 months before arriving in China;
3.Documents for non-degree program application
(1) The Admission Application Form for Foreign Students, NXU;
(2) Copies of the academic transcript from last school (Non-English certificates should be translated into English and notarized);
(3) The applicant’s final academic certificate (Non-English certificates should be translated into English and notarized.);
(4) The applicant’s passport (Passport must be valid beyond the intended period of study in China.);
(5) Electronic photo;
(6) AIDS laboratory report;
(7) No criminal record certificate notarized by the Chinese Embassy;
(8) A photocopy of the Foreign Physical Examination Record (This form is uniformly printed by the Chinese health and quarantine department and can be downloaded at http://sie.nxu.edu.cn.) and a blood test report. Applicants should strictly follow the guidelines of the Foreign Physical Examination Record. The original documents should be submitted and checked again at registration. If any of the documents submitted at the time of application are inconsistent with those at the time of registration, the enrollment qualification shall be cancelled, and all expenses shall be borne by the applicant.
VIII. Tuition Standard
1. Chinese language students (Start in March or September): 10,000 RMB/person/school year
2. Undergraduate students (Start in September): 12,800 RMB/person/school year
3. Master students (Start in September): 16,000 RMB/person/school year
4. Doctoral students (Start in September): 18,000 RMB/person/school year
5. Senior scholars and visiting scholars: 10,000 RMB/person/school year
