1. Introduction
Ningxia University, founded in 1958, is a comprehensive university jointly run by the Ministry of Education of the PRC and the Government of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It is one of the state "first-class discipline" construction universities and one of the state "project 211" key universities. Ningxia University is located in Yinchuan, the capital city of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, a region with a long history and beautiful scenery.
Ningxia University is one of the first universities approved by the Ministry of Education to accept foreign students. It is also authorized to accept foreign students awarded the Chinese Government Scholarship and Confucius Institute Scholarship. In addition, it is the only center for HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) in Ningxia. Since 1992 more than 3,000 overseas students have studied in Ningxia University from more than 40 countries such as Korea, the United States, Japan, Russia, Australia, Norway, Mexico, Sudan, Egypt, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan.
The School of International Education (SIE) is a dedicated school for international students’ enrollment, administration, management, as well as teaching and training in Chinese language. The SIE has both an undergraduate program and graduate program in Chinese Language and Literature. The SIE provides standardized and systematic management for international students as well as all-round and humanized services. Students are taught in small-sized classes with a strong emphasis on personalized teaching. Different exchange activities between Chinese students and foreign students, colorful extracurricular activities and Chinese cultural activities are organized for the international students.
2. Study Period
The undergraduate program lasts for four years, the master's program lasts for three years, and the doctoral program lasts for three to five years. Language students can apply for a study period of at least six months. In addition, the SIE accepts various short-term Chinese Culture programs with no limitations on number of applicants, time, and learning content.
The complete academic year in Ningxia University is divided into a spring semester and an autumn semester. The autumn semester is the beginning of a new academic year. The autumn semester usually starts at the beginning of September and ends in January of the following year while the spring semester begins in late February and ends in early July. There is a winter and summer vacation every year.
3. Programs

4. Chinese Language Proficiency Requirements for admission:
(1) Students applying for the Chinese language and literature undergraduate program can be admitted without Chinese language proficiency;
(2) New HSK level 4 is required for students majoring in science and engineering; new HSK level 5 is required for liberal arts majors. If the oral and writing skills do not reach the level required for the major, one-year of Chinese language study is required (Scholarship recipients are responsible for the tuition fees for this year. Scholarship qualifications are not retained if the student cannot reach HSK requirements after one year of language study).
(3) Applicants to doctoral, advanced scholar, or research visiting scholar programs do not have Chinese language requirements, but they must be able to finish their study or research in English;
(4) There is no Chinese proficiency requirement for language students and Chinese Culture programs.
5. Medical insurance
Ningxia University requires international students to have insurance during their studies. The insurance should cover at least accidental injury and medical insurance. After registration, the school will assist self-financed students to purchase their insurance for their period of study in China. The school will purchase insurance for scholarship students after their registration.
6. Accommodation
Ningxia University has international student apartments on campus. Every room has a private bathroom with 24-hour hot water and shares a public kitchen, one on each floor. All the rooms are fully equipped, comfortable and safe. The apartments are in a secure, well-monitored building. The building is closed from 23: 00-06: 00; an apartment administrator in on duty 24-hours.
7. Application materials
The Applicant must be a non-Chinese citizen with a foreign passport who is at least 18 years old. A Chinese immigrant applying to study in Ningxia University must have held a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for at least 4 years, and in addition, the applicant must have a record of living abroad for more than two years of the last four years(up to April 30 of the application year). At least 9 months in one year can be counted as one year subject to entry and exit seals.

1. The Admission Application Form for Foreign Students, NXU;
2. A copy of the highest academic certificate;
3. Original of the highest academic qualification notarized by the Chinese Embassy. The applicant who is still at school has to submit a certificate of attendance or pre-graduation certificate issued by the school currently being attended. Moreover, after admission, the applicant must submit the original academic qualification and a copy notarized by the Chinese Embassy;
4. Copies of the academic transcript both the original and a copy notarized by the Chinese Embassy;
5. Study plan (for undergraduate) or research plan (for postgraduate) in China;
6. Letter of recommendation. Applicants for the undergraduate program must submit two letters of recommendation in either Chinese or English from high school teachers; applicants for the master's or doctoral degree must submit two letters of recommendation in either Chinese or English by a professor or associate professor;
7. The applicant’s passport (Passport must be valid beyond the intended period of study in China.);
8. Electronic photo (Pixel quality must be greater than 1M.);
9. Articles published in public journals, etc (Required for applicants for the doctoral program);
10. Certificates of various awards during study or work;
11. HSK transcript (HSK Level 4 or Level 5 certificate);
12. AIDS laboratory report;
13. No criminal record certificate notarized by the Chinese Embassy.
14. A photocopy of the Foreign Physical Examination Record (This form is uniformly printed by the Chinese health and quarantine department and can be downloaded at http://sie.nxu.edu.cn.) and a blood test report. Applicants should strictly follow the guidelines of the Foreign Physical Examination Record. The Foreign Physical Examination Record is invalid if it is incomplete, without the signature of the doctor and the official stamp of the hospital, or without the photo of the applicant and the seal on the photo. The applicant is requested to do the medical examination within the 3 months before arriving in China;

Undergraduate Program
Project description: The academic period for the undergraduate program is 4 years. After the completion of all the courses and required credits as well as the oral defense of the graduation thesis, the graduation certificate and the bachelor's degree will be awarded to those who meet the requirements. In addition, Ningxia University can also accept junior college students who would like to upgrade to university. Applicants who have obtained a junior college degree could directly enter the third-year study undergraduate program.
Eligibility: High school graduates or above.

Master Degree Program
Project introduction: The academic period for the master’s degree program is 3 years. After the completion of all the required credits and the oral defense of the graduation thesis or graduation project, the graduation certificate and the Master's degree will be awarded to those who meet the requirements.

Doctoral Degree Program
Project introduction: The academic period for the doctoral degree program is 3 years. After acquiring the required credits and completing scientific research requirement and the doctoral dissertation defense, the graduation certificate and the doctoral degree will be awarded to those who meet the requirements.

Language study program
Project introduction: SIE offers Chinese language teaching of different durations and levels to international students as well as provides preparatory Chinese language education for international students who would like to study for undergraduate or graduate program. Those who have completed the required courses and passed exams will be awarded a certificate of completion.
